Less than 24 hours away, departure day is upon us and we are awakening to snow on the ground! Unexpected show….they said flurries! It’s not much but coupled with the low temps, the trailer packing becomes more challenging.
Wish we had planned better….. This year we decided to stick around after Christmas instead of hitting road right after the big holiday. Now we are paying the price!
So it is either pack in the sub freezing temps today and get out of town tomorrow or take the chance of being caught in more inhospitable weather.
Just trying to keep the eye on the prize this AM as I survey the white stuff around me. We are heading to east Texas and a visit to LHC and from there, well, it depends on the weather. We have friends on their way to Big Bend and it would be nice to camp with them again. ( Hi! Glenda and Jeff) but I don’t want to be cold! Current temps across our pathway….Big Bend National Park 33 degrees, Quitman, TX 27 degrees, Phoenix and Yuma, AZ 49 degrees….and it’s 8 AM in AZ.
We are taking our newest family member, Sylvester, to the Southwest with us. In anticipation of his needs, we’ve gotten more cat carriers, kitty beds and litter boxes. Not sure where everything is going to fit.
This will be the first time we have taken a pet. A bit nervous about it but so many other people travel with their cats and dogs…surely we will adjust!
Don’t have the time to do a proper post….just know we are heading to the sun! A visit to the boon docking lands of Yuma and Quartzsite and a wedding in Phoenix….these are our only concrete plans….and there’s some jello in them!
Wishing everyone on the road to stay safe and everyone else, stay warm!!!!
The weather has really turned mean on us here in Georgia as well!! We don't have the white stuff and that is a blessing!! Good luck in the packing and stay safe!! I bet Sylvester will do great!! Our doggies adjusted real well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouragement! We are almost packed, hoping to hit the road tomorrow. Did you ever get an answer about the Townsend rally? I tried to post to FB but it disappeared. The info is on the forums somewhere and we will be there.
DeleteWeather out here is beautiful, a bit on the chilly side at night and in mornings; but, Spring is coming. Probably lots of roller coaster weather here too for awhile. I'll be anxious to read about your ventures. Happy New and a Adventurous Year.
ReplyDeleteOh, Spring! I am already ready!!!!
DeleteWould love to email you, Emily, but don't know how. Tried to message you and could not make it work. Glad to hear that your weather is nice. I am unfamiliar with NM in the winter. Pretty pleasant?
Wow....it will be a bit of a challenge...especially in north Texas...they have had there share of ice.....today, I woke up to 28 degrees and its south Texas...Sunday another cold front moves in that has the lows in the mid 20's.....take care, safe travels..though when you are at Larry's you will be inside a NICE structure, with kitchen, bathroom and more....and the best hosts ever!!!!...Plus as a next door neighbor you have Mmoe and her two companions Larry and Curly..haha...who are GREAT....take care and enjoy...Horst sends
ReplyDeleteI do not like the idea of getting cold...and we do not have a furnace, just a little sport cat catalytic heater. No Walmarts until it gets warm!
DeleteThanks for the description of Larry's place. All I knew was that one is inside a building.
I have met Larry, Curly and Moe......lol!
It was 0F here in MA yesterday. We also have a 16 ft Casita and I wish it was hitched up and heading to FL! Instead, it sits in the driveway looking forlorn in this snow :)
ReplyDeleteI would be intersted in your cat experience in the egg. I have been contemplating a similar experience with my cat, Libby.
Rick
I plan to write about the good, bad and whatever of taking Sylvester. I do believe that it depends on the cat. Our other two, bad idea!
DeleteSorry about your zero F....you probably could not get out now with all the snow.
Thanks for stopping by with a comment!!!
Go find the warmth and sunshine! Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim. Glad I am going to have good blogging company on the trip!!
DeleteI can see a book coming out of your first year on the road. So many changes and challenges but you do seem to have picked a perfect place for your first winter on the road!
ReplyDeleteSylvester will be spoiled as an only child. It will be a rude awakening when his older sisters return home and start harassing him.
Ohhhh, I'm jealous. We aren't getting away until next Thursday. Wishing you safe travels to LHC, and points farther on. Tell Larry, Debbie, and Moe hello for us. Depending on how fast you travel, and your route West, we may see you somewhere along the way. If not, save me room at Quartzite. We'll be peddling that direction sometime after Big Bend.
ReplyDeleteNext Thursday really sounds good to me as the bad "Hercules" cold front should be way gone by then.
ReplyDeleteWe are thinking Tucson, Yuma, Quartzsite (for the show), Scottsdale and then back to Quartzsite for the gathering.
Will be sure to pass on your regards to the crew! Stay warm and stay safe. Tell Eileen hi for us!
YAY! Time for your winter escape is finally here! Sunshine ahead!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are taking Sylvester. It will give him more time alone with you which should help with bonding. I hope! Anyway, he's my favorite and I'm glad he's going with you!
Hope this is your best trip ever!
Oh Sharon, thank you. It's not yet 6AM and I am sitting here alone, drinking my coffee and saying a few prayers for safety. Sylvester is keeping me company until the hubby arises....he is missing his two big sisters.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I have your positive energy along for the ride!
Lynne & David -- Missed having you two with us at Lajitas but it sounds like I'll be seeing you at the Quartzsite Gathering next week, right? Great blog! Arizona Eileen
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen! See you in a few more days......need to talk with you about our Cherokee rally in October.!
